Tomorrow I’m having a garage sale. 2705 Arrow Smith Ln. I’ve got couches, a printer, scanner, DVDs, CDs, Clothes, ect. I am hoping to be up and running by 6 A.M., but I’m assuming those who read this won’t be up that early. If you feel like stopping by I would love to se you and your monies. This is a joint garage sale by the by with Holly Scott.

This is a slide I did for the wired team at New Life Church. I’m not trilled about the typography but it tends to be me achillis heal in design.

This is what I watched this weekend. I’m sure it influenced the latter post.

I’m sure you’ve heard Summon the Heros. It has been hard not to turn to NBC and hear these last few weeks. The Olympics have been a Magnificent, heart lifting, and at times nauseating spectacle this year. But, I’m sure you’ve seen or killed countless hours at work talking about it. Instead I think it is necessary to talk about the things that are being avoided and most likely discouraged.

Now since I’m obviously not in China I can report to you as though I have been there, but I can give you links to some good articles about what is going on. The one I highly recommend is Rick Reilly’s. It is worth reading a couple of times.

Rick Reilly’s – These Olympics are unreal. And that’s not a good thing exactly how we planned it.

Meghan Keane – Beijings Brand Strategy: Fake It Til You Make It

This is just a good source of photos of the homeless people and some close ups of the fake building.

James – Beijing Olympics – shirtless men, fake products, and Potemkin facades

This article is from the AP about the questionable age of the Chinese gymnasts. For those of you who are opposed to reading this article talk about how some of the gymnasts, specifically He Kexin, Yang Yilin, Jiang Yuyuan, Deng Linlin and Li Shanshan were most likely under age. According to the General Administration of Sport of China some of the were registered to be born in 1994 in 2005, 2006, and 2007 making them 14. Then in 2008, they magically were born in 1992

Nacy Armour and John Leichester – Gymnasts’ parent “indignant” over age question

For the reading impaired here is a link to an NPR talk by Daniel Schorr. Don’t get me wrong I love NPR but his voice will rock me to sleep luckily it is only 2 minutes and 57 second long.Listen now

Now I know some of this, if it were in the U.S., would be considered as cool, but I think the motivation behind all of it is what bothers me. I think that they are trying so hard to show the world how awesome they are by hiding really in my opinion what makes china, china, is as disgusting as what they do when the world isn’t looking.

I feel like I have been black balled.

This was a logo concept I came up with for Elevation’s Elements program. It was never used and I tried to adapt it for an internship logo. That also fell through. The first versions of this were on a flash drive that was stolen.

Here is the current skinny on my sister. She is doing very well and was sent home on Wednesday. She doesn’t remember anything from the hospital, but hopefully it was just heavy drugs for travel. They ran some tests and the baby is doing extremely well too. We can only hope the baby now has super powers.

It seems like M.I.A. is starting to gain some press with the song Paper Planes. If you’ve seen a preview for the movie Pineapple Express you’ve heard it. Well if you got her album and you liked the rest of her stuff, give Santogold a try. This is her song L.E.S. artistes. The video is like a cross between Regina Spector’s Fidelity and the end of Shawn of the Dead.(for those it bothers, that link isn’t “clean”)

I don’t know that you have ever experienced the Conway health system, but it is a trip. If I can make any suggestion, do not dress up and go. When I walked in, I realized that every lower class person waiting in the large classroom had the same simultaneous thought, “what hooker did this guy sleep with, and why does he keep scratching his crotch.”

I had to get a TB skin test for the Conway school system. I had never been to any kind of free public clinic before but it is a scary place. For those of you who think socialized medicine would be amazing spend a day at a “free” clinic. You will take your communist fairy tale book and toss it into your burning pile of capitalist propaganda.

I don’t know that I have seen so many junior high girls with there gangster boyfriend sitting and waiting for what I can only assume is a pregnancy test or birth control. Really the only other people that I saw in there were small children and one other guy getting the same test as me This is not to say the doctors are not phenomenal. The nurse that I dealt with was amazing and painless. I tip my hat to you ladies.

Jami is doing well, so well in fact they have moved her from the ICU and into a private room. They told us they will have to watch her closely for about 7 days, but it seems she is progressing far quicker than anyone could have hoped for. I don’t know when she will be checked out of the hospital. When I sent my mom a text for an update, I received GREAT.

Before I returned home on Sunday I wanted to drive through downtown a little before I left. I wish I would have spent more time there, but I needed to start back so I wouldn’t fall asleep at the wheel. From what I have been told the months following the surgery will be some of the most difficult. They say that because the number of people coming to visit and help tends to drop off. Maybe once I land a job I can muster some gas money and make the coming months run a little smoother and get a little more exploring done.  Out of all the things I saw downtown this trip, this mural was my favorite.

THE SURGERY WAS A SUCCESS!!!! Jami’s husband is the the only one to have seen her, but the doctors’ gave a great report. They have fixed the artery at what they think was the easiest point. The procedure they used was coil treatment. At first it was explained to me as a series of springs, but I did a little research of my own. It consists of tiny platinum coils being pumped into the troubled area and conforms to its shape. That area then clots off and is no longer in danger of rupturing.

They doctors will have to watch her for a couple of days to make sure the artery doesn’t recruit an understudy, but all signs, as of right now, say that shouldn’t happen. ****mid post update – Only two of us aloud to see her for the rest of the day, But she is doing fantastic. She wanted to know who won So You Think You Can Dance. And I know that sounds weird but she was watching it last night and the fact that she remembers was watching is a great sign**** Thank you to everyone for all of your thoughts and prayers.
